happy hour

after hearing the recent buzz around positive psychology at harvard and reading ben casnocha's blog on "the good life," i decided to go to a professor panel on happiness (a follow up to the panel on love i went to in feb) featuring an ir, developmental psychology, english, philosophy and electrical engineering professor. it makes sense. you always hear about depression in regards to psych, so why not happiness? the development in positive psych and realization that emotional intelligence is important is kind of key, especially in a university setting where happiness is supposed to be based on the stuff you do with your day/night, your achievements, and accumulated pride. an interesting point made was the difference between happiness which is usually based on external variants and joy which is a state of fulfillment and gratitude, yes i sound very new age hippie.

fun fact: zebras and cats have low stress levels. i like zebras even more now.

oh, p.s. vince got a rabbit last night...with small ears and a big butt, making it not really a rabbit, but a guinea pig. come see her.

wow zebras are cool. i see what they/you mean by the difference between joy and happiness. i like that. i think it is true too, that joy is internally derived but happiness is externally derived.
